Lakesiders, this is Tatler speaking.
We want YOU.
Yes, you. Currently, there are 35 members on Tatler’s staff and 587 students at Lakeside’s Upper School. If our math is correct, Tatler makes up only about 6% of the student body. And we know that the other 94% of students have plenty of opinions.
Why? Because we hear you in the halls, publish your hot takes anonymously, note your pointed contributions in Harkness discussions, view your stories on Instagram, and speak with you about the issues you care about the most.
Eighty years ago, after a decade of soul searching, Tatler found our purpose: “To observe clearly, and speak freely.” In doing so, Tatler has ruffled a few feathers over the past nine decades. We don’t plan on stopping anytime soon.
But this year, we want to hear more from you. Respond to articles you love — or hate — through Letters to the Editor, and know that we EICs will read (and maybe publish) every last one. Submit a cartoon on the political and economic state of the world right now, or even one that’s just for fun. Write an op-ed about an issue impacting the community you don’t hear anyone else talking about. Tip us off to a story you think we should write. Email us a puzzle you made or the game you’ve been tinkering with in Computer Science, and see it featured on our website or Instagram. Pitch a video series or podcast to our Multimedia Director, and we’ll work with you to make it happen.
We’ll be your pen pals on GSL or during your semester away. We want to plug your underground rap and hear all about your team’s trip to State.
All that to say, Tatler is just as much yours as it is ours. For the past ninety years, we’ve been a newspaper run by the students, for the students. With the help of 11 new recruits and our veteran editors, Design Chiefs, and Creative Leadership Team, we’re doing the work so it always stays that way. We are committed to protecting students’ freedom of expression and reporting the truth.
And that starts with you. On the record, or off. Whether you’re a freshman new to Lakeside or a senior starting your eighth year. We’re here for YOU: send us an email, wave us down in Red Square, let us know what you think. Your input will help us report fairly and accurately on topics that are difficult to talk about, but worth discussing anyway.
So stay tuned: Throughout the year, we’ll be sharing ways you can get involved at Clubs Fair, in our monthly newsletter, and on social media (make sure to follow @lakesidetatler on Instagram!). Should you answer our call, we’ll support you every step of the way.
Over and out (for now),
Koreb T. ’26 and Samara N. ’26
Editors-in-Chief of the Lakeside Tatler
