January 31: The Pulitzer Prize winning author and journalist Anne Applebaum visits Lakeside to deliver Bernie Noe Endowed Lecture on Ethics and Politics.
February 17: Boys’ Swim & Dive wins the 202324 WIAA 3A State Championship, while Girls’ Basketball beat Garfield to become the Sea-King District 2 Champions.
March 6: Shankar Vedantam, host of NPR’s The Hidden Brain, speaks to Lakeside students as part of the Mark J. Bebie ’70 Memorial Lecture.
April 2-3: Lakeside launches the inaugural “Lakeside Fund Day” with a social media campaign, raising almost $300,000 over two days.
May 6: This year’s Arcade-themed May Day takes place on the Upper School Quad, featuring obstacle courses and student performances. In the morning, students attended Life After Lakeside panels where alumni shared insights on potential career paths and following passions.
September 4: Lakeside enters a shelter in-place on the first day of school after the Seattle Police Department detects a possible threat. Convocation is postponed as students remain in shelter for almost two hours.
October 30: The annual Bernie Noe Endowed Lecture on Ethics and Politics features Amy Walter of the Cook Political Report. Walter met with students during lunch and in a last-period Q&A season.
November 2: Girls’ Swim & Dive finishes off an undefeated season. The team has been the Metro League Champions for 13 years.
November 14-16 The Upper School Drama Department presents the Fall Play, Shakespeare’s “Much Ado About Nothing” for three nights in St. Nicks.

January 11: Israel launches airstrikes on Rafah, recovering two hostages held by Hamas since Oct. 7 and killing around 100 people.
February 25: The United Nations Security Council votes on an immediate ceasefire in Gaza for the Muslim observance of Ramadan and the release of hostages. This comes after the United States abstained, despite the Israeli Prime Minister’s warning that he would cancel an Israeli delegation’s visit to the U.S. if they did not veto the resolution.
March 8: A total solar eclipse is seen over North America, from Eastern Canada to the Southwest United States and Mexico, for the first time since 2016. The next time a total eclipse occurs over the United States is August 23, 2044.
May 30: A jury in Manhattan finds President Donald Trump guilty of 34 counts of forging documents related to a payment made to Stormy Daniels before the 2016 election. The charges make him the first former U.S. President convicted of a felony.
July 11: President Joe Biden drops out of the 2024 election after a controversial performance in the first presidential debate caused concerns about the President’s age and cognitive ability. Following this decision, Vice President Kamala Harris announces her bid for the presidency.
September 17-18: Over two days, pagers and walkie-talkies used by Hezbollah exploded simultaneously in Lebanon and Syria, killing 42 people and injuring 4,000. Though initially denying involvement, Israel later admitted to orchestrating the attack and escalating conflict between the two parties.
October 16: Following a chance encounter with the Israeli Defense Forces, Yahya Sinwar, leader of Hamas, is killed.
November 5: Donald J. Trump is elected as the 47th President of the United States, making history as the first president since Grover Cleveland to return to office after losing an incumbent bid, the first Republican candidate to win the popular vote in two decades, and the first president to be convicted of a felony.
