Winter Fashion

Beatrice and Sophia:

Sophia H. ’25 and Beatrice B. ’25 (Daniel W. ’25)

Sophia H. ’25’s sweater is vintage Ralph Lauren, and she’s very proud of it; in her own words, it’s “one of her best vintage finds.” She’s sporting it around campus, but “not patriotically; in a Lana Del Ray way.” Her final message? Shop Ebay.

Beatrice B. ’25, on the other hand, got her sweater about a year ago and wears it constantly. She tells us it’s from Splendid – very befitting for its gorgeous, woven look.

Secondhand Club Leaders:

The leaders of Secondhand Club know where to find amazing winter fashion (Daniel W. ’25)

Darby C. ’25 wants you to know that everything she’s featured wearing (besides her belt and shoes; shhhh) are secondhand; everything’s better when you’re getting it thrifted! If you’re in the quickly-scrambling-for-Christmas-gifts mindset, then the Secondhand Club leaders suggest some vintage jeans, or maybe a great vintage sweater! (They also suggest visiting the photo room every Tuesday activity period for club meetings!)

Michael Y:

Michael Y. ’24 tells us that Costco is the place to go for all your clothes shopping needs; it’s great value! To keep himself warm in these freezing times, he dresses in his iconic black, Kirkland Signature fit. Now, he tries to modestly claim that he’s not a fashion icon, but those of us that have seen him dazzling the Lakeside halls have to disagree.

Ms. Yorks:

Ms. Yorks (Daniel W. ’25)

Ms. Yorks’s outfit is full of color – and lore! Her sweater is from her favorite store, Purpose Boutique, which donates at least 10% of their profits to prevent human trafficking both in the United States and globally. (They have 5 different locations across Washington!) And here’s a fun fact to keep you motivated in English class: Her shoes were directly inspired by the “expert” speech one of her tenth graders gave on her Nike collection!

Nara:

Nara C. ’25 shows off her banana-themed socks (Daniel W. ’25)

Nara C. ’25 regales us with her clothes’ different origin stories. Her first layer is a Lakeside T-shirt from last school year’s spring tailgate, which is then covered by a warm, Christmas-patterned sweater she got from a Goodwill in Shoreline for only seven dollars! Her pants are from American Eagle, her shoes from Reebok (as part of her fall cross country adventures), but best of all – she lifts her pant leg to reveal her bright yellow banana socks, which have been with her since seventh grade! Incredible style, from head to toe.

Lael G. '25, Copy Editor
Lael is disillusioned.   Born May 29th, the universe stopped when Lael entered the world. Per her own recollection (which is “super sharp”), that day the sun shone brilliantly upon the Earth, babies stopped crying, depression was cured, and militants around the world were perplexed as their weapons began to melt into the ground.   Yet, nothing can last forever. For that moment of “Armistice Day all over again” was infinitesimal. Now, Lael spends her days tossing and turning, giving impassioned TED talks in her head, yearning to return the world to that state of bliss. Since elementary school at St. George -- “once a dragon, always a dragon” -- she’s been rallying the masses to her causes through her work in both the “state media apparatus” (the St. George gazette) and her own, underground student operation -- the deliciously subversive “Daily Whatever.”   In high school, her world-changing career in this field has only continued, whether she’s “Doing it for the Duwamish” in her club at school or in downtown Seattle, reporting in the field on student protests for gun control. “It hasn’t been easy,” she says, “I often think philosophically, about my own life and my place in it, and it’s a burden, the weight of it all, you know?” However, despite the heavy consequences of being an ethics bowl superstar, she gets by as Tatler’s faithful copy editor (with just a little help from GamePigeon and her pet cat, Juliet).
