As the holiday season descends upon us, Lakeside’s affinity groups are lighting up the calendar with a variety of holiday events. Both the Jewish Student Union (JSU) and Coram Deo, Lakeside’s Christian Fellowship, are hosting holiday celebrations that promise fun and food for all students. These events not only offer a chance to celebrate holiday traditions, but also invite students from all backgrounds to learn and participate.
Coram Deo
Coram Deo is inviting students to cozy up and celebrate the Christmas season with a festive party on Tuesday, Dec. 16. This event, which will take place in Moore 13, is planned as a relaxing and heartwarming way to ring in the holiday spirits. Joshua H. ’27 confirmed their plans, stating they “will be watching A Charlie Brown Christmas, doing a festive craft, and indulging in lots of holiday treats like cookies and hot cocoa!”
Attendees can look forward to watching the classic animated special, a beloved story known for its message about the true meaning of Christmas. Whether you want to cozy up to watch a movie, participate in arts, or just eat plenty of holiday delicacies, Coram Deo’s holiday gathering promises to be a warm and fun event for both members and non-members alike.
Jewish Student Union
Just a few days later, the Jewish Student Union will be hosting its own celebration for Hanukkah, the Jewish festival of lights. JSU is planning a fun party on Thursday, Dec. 18 in Moore 20. Yona P. ’26, one of JSU’s leaders, warmly extended an invitation, noting “Everyone is welcome for this celebration.”
The Hanukkah party will feature several fun and traditional activities. Students will have the chance to play dreidel, the classic holiday
spinning-top game, and enjoy plenty of food. The celebration’s organizers specified that they will be eating sufganiot, which are jelly-filled donuts. In addition, there will also be a chance to play holiday-themed Jeopardy games, adding a little competition to the celebration.
With December promising an array of festive activities, these events hosted by Coran Deo and JSU are perfect opportunities for students to celebrate and connect before winter break.
If you are looking for classic holiday comfort with an opportunity to learn about different religious holidays, make sure to mark Dec. 16 and 18 on your calendar. These celebrations offer something for everyone, inviting the entire Lakeside community to embrace the holiday spirit together.
