As the holiday season is well underway, the season of giving has arrived and wishlists are being made in hopes of Santa miraculously sliding down our chimney and leaving presents under the tree. Here are ten things on a Lakesider’s wishlist this year.
- The return of garlic bread (the actual bread, not the breadsticks!)
Recently, SAGE Dining has blessed us with meatballs and garlic bread every day. And SAGE, if you’re reading right now, we absolutely LOVE you for this! But unfortunately, the garlic breadsticks cannot keep up with the gloriousness that is the garlic bread. The warm, crispy crust of the baguette layered with heaps of garlic butter just simply cannot be beat by the slightly less flavorful and less satisfying breadsticks. I’ve been thinking about thisgarlic bread since the one day we hadit available, and we’d absolutely love itif we could bring it back.
- A puffer coat or rain jacket
Seattle’s rainy winter season and Lakeside’s outdoor campus have… a complicated relationship! As beautiful and expansive as our campus is,walking from Red Square to the AACin the pouring rain and 30-40 degreeweather is not for the faint of heart.Unfortunately, a hoodie and pants atschool are no longer going to cut itfor most people, and rain jackets andpuffer coats have suddenly become thenew “it” item. Bundle up, Lakesiders, because too cold is not a cute look forthis winter season.
- A tropical vacation (or just someplace warm and sunny)
Anything to get a break from this weather. Even if you love the rain and cold, some rays of sunshine can help boost your mood and your mental health.
- An Auslander Comeback? A rare Holcenberg win? A Nordhoff Victory? A Trudgian Triumph?
After our last house assembly, this one speaks for itself. May the best house win!
- More whipped cream in the WCC
How is it that every day, Lakeside’s whipped cream supply runs out before the end of second period? As someone who has a B2 free, if I’m lucky, I’ll be able to squeeze out the last little bit of whipped cream from the Reddi-Wip container. But for people who want to make their drinks or desserts 10x better with whipped cream during lunch,99% of the time, they’ll be out of luck.So Santa (or whoever controls howmany cans of whipped cream we get),spare a few more cans?
- A good outcome on a project you worked super hard on or a test you studied thoroughly for
Nowadays, “winging it” has become an unusually popular study method. While winging it is definitely something one might have to do in diretimes, the art of putting in the effortand trying your hardest is extremelyadmirable. So if you’re reading thisand waiting for a big grade on a testor project you worked diligently on,you’ve got this! You deserve it!
- A free parking spot!
Even as a freshman, I’ve heardcountless complaints about Lakesideparking from upperclassmen aroundcampus. I see it almost every day whenour poor editor-in-chief, Jackson B.’25, walk-of-shames late into first-period Latin 1 because he can never findparking.
- A stuffed animal
Who said stuffed animals weren’t forhighschoolers? That’s right: No one.Everyone needs a cozy stuffed animalto snuggle up with after a long day ofschool, classes, and everything life as ahigh schooler has to offer.
- More sleep!
Of course, it wouldn’t be a Lakesider’s holiday wishlist without something almost every Lakeside student needs: More sleep. It’s a common trait of Lakesiders to be sleep-deprived, and if anyone was paying attention during 9th grade Human Development, we’d know that this level ofsleep deprivation is horrible for us.Make sure to catch those Zs and getthe sleep you deserve!
- A snow day
To round out this holiday wishlist, the winter season wouldn’t be complete without a snow day. Throughout months on months of rainy, cold weather in Seattle, snow (that actually sticks to the ground) is a rare but magical occurrence in the city. Waking up and looking out the window to find everything covered in white, powdery snow is the essence of the winter season — and on top of that, having a whole day off of school dedicated to playing in (or hiding from) the snow is the cherry on top. Even after the snow days, the Lakeside campus looks extra dashing with a light dusting and can provide for some pretty awesome wintry memories with friends.
So, Lakesiders, have a happy holidays, and let’s hope Santa surprises uswith these presents under the tree thisyear.
